Which bridge in Vancouver is a suspension bridge linking downtown Vancouver with the North Shore?
Answer
Lion's Gate Bridge
Answer
Lion's Gate Bridge
Lion's Gate Bridge is the suspension bridge linking downtown Vancouver with the North Shore.
Officially named the First Narrows Bridge, it crosses the First Narrows of Burrard Inlet and opened in 1938. The bridge provided a direct road connection from Vancouver to the North Shore municipalities, including West Vancouver and North Vancouver.
Its popular name comes from the Lions, a pair of mountain peaks visible from the Vancouver area. The bridge's towers and cables have become a defining part of the city's skyline, especially when viewed from Stanley Park.
Lion's Gate Bridge is not the same as the nearby Burrard Bridge, a reinforced-concrete art deco crossing over False Creek. Nor is it the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing, which carries traffic farther east across Burrard Inlet.
