The Øresund Bridge is the Denmark–Sweden crossing that opened in 2000 and includes a tunnel beneath the Øresund Strait.
The combined road-and-rail link connects Copenhagen on the Danish side with Malmö in Sweden. It is not a bridge for the entire route: the crossing begins with the Drogden Tunnel, continues to the artificial island of Peberholm, and then uses the bridge section to reach Sweden. This arrangement preserves shipping access and accommodates Copenhagen Airport nearby.
The bridge section is a cable-stayed structure with a main span of 490 metres. The full fixed link is about 16 kilometres long. The project transformed travel between the two metropolitan areas and became a major symbol of Nordic regional integration. The name is commonly written with the Danish-Swedish form “Øresund,” while the Swedish name is Öresund Bridge.
