Which Beyoncé visual album is based on music from The Lion King: The Gift?

The story behind the answer

Black Is King is the Beyoncé visual album based on music from The Lion King: The Gift.

The project was released on Disney+ on July 31, 2020. Beyoncé wrote, directed, and executive-produced the film, which reimagines themes associated with Disney’s 2019 photorealistic remake of The Lion King. It uses music from her companion album The Lion King: The Gift, released in 2019.

Black Is King connects its songs through a series of richly styled visual chapters. Its story follows a young king’s journey toward identity, responsibility, and self-knowledge, while its imagery celebrates African and diasporic cultures.

The film includes collaborations with artists such as Blue Ivy Carter, Jay-Z, Childish Gambino, Shatta Wale, and Major Lazer. It should not be confused with Homecoming, which documents Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performance, or Lemonade, her 2016 visual album.
