Renaissance is the Beyoncé album associated with the 2022 lead single “Break My Soul.”
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album and the first act of a planned trilogy. Its sound draws from house, disco, dance-pop, funk, and other club-oriented traditions. “Break My Soul,” released before the album, incorporates a prominent sample of Robin S.’s “Show Me Love” and a vocal sample from Big Freedia’s “Explode.”
Renaissance is sometimes confused with Beyoncé’s earlier visual albums, especially Lemonade and the self-titled Beyoncé. Unlike those projects, Renaissance was not accompanied by a full set of music videos at release. The album received widespread critical acclaim and won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album, helping Beyoncé become the first Black woman to win that category.
