What was the first single released from Beyoncé’s debut solo album?

The story behind the answer

“Crazy in Love” was the first single released from Beyoncé’s debut solo album, Dangerously in Love.

Released in 2003, the song features rapper Jay-Z and was produced by Rich Harrison, who built its distinctive horn-driven hook around a sample from the Chi-Lites’ 1970 song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).” Beyoncé and Jay-Z recorded the song during the final stages of the album.

“Crazy in Love” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Beyoncé’s first number-one single as a solo artist in the United States. Its energetic video and choreography helped establish her solo visual style.

The song is sometimes confused with “Déjà Vu,” which was the lead single from Beyoncé’s second album, B’Day. “Baby Boy” was another major Dangerously in Love single, but it followed “Crazy in Love” as a release.
