Which band recorded the 1991 grunge album Temple of the Dog?

The story behind the answer

Temple of the Dog recorded the 1991 grunge album Temple of the Dog.

The project was created by Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell as a tribute to Andrew Wood, the late lead vocalist of Mother Love Bone and Cornell’s close friend. Cornell wrote songs for the project and recruited musicians connected to Seattle’s rock scene, including Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready and Matt Cameron.

The album featured vocals by Cornell and Eddie Vedder, who had recently joined the musicians who would become Pearl Jam. Its best-known song, “Hunger Strike,” became a defining collaboration between Cornell and Vedder.

The album was initially released with limited commercial impact in April 1991. It gained much greater attention after Pearl Jam and Soundgarden became internationally successful, leading to a 1992 reissue.
