Which actor played Captain Haddock in Peter Jackson’s The Adventures of Tintin?

The story behind the answer

Andy Serkis played Captain Haddock in Peter Jackson’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.

The 2011 motion-capture adventure was directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Kathleen Kennedy. Serkis portrayed the alcoholic but heroic sea captain whose ancestor, Sir Francis Haddock, is connected to the mystery of the Unicorn ship.

Jamie Bell played Tintin, while Daniel Craig voiced the villainous pirate descendant Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine. Serkis’s role is distinctive because he had already worked with Jackson as the motion-capture performer for Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.

Captain Haddock is one of Hergé’s best-known characters and is famous for his explosive insults and seafaring heritage. The film draws mainly from The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham’s Treasure.
