Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game was released in 2011. Developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Disney Interactive Studios, it launched in May 2011 to coincide with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in the movie series.
Rather than adapting only the newest film, the game retells stories from the first four Pirates of the Caribbean movies: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest, At World's End, and On Stranger Tides. Its Lego-style presentation turns characters, ships, locations, and action scenes into playful puzzle-platforming levels.
The game uses the series' familiar drop-in, drop-out cooperative format. Character abilities are central to progression: Captain Jack Sparrow can use his compass to locate hidden objects, Will Turner throws axes at targets, and Elizabeth Swann can double-jump. Davy Jones and members of his crew also have special underwater abilities.
The year is sometimes confused with 2010 because the game was officially announced in November 2010. That was the announcement date, not the release year.
