What year was Lego Batman: The Videogame released?

The story behind the answer

Lego Batman: The Videogame was released in 2008.

Developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the action-adventure game launched for major platforms including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Nintendo DS, and Windows. A Mac OS X version followed in 2009.

Unlike several earlier Lego games, Lego Batman tells an original story rather than directly adapting a specific Batman film or comic storyline. Players control Batman, Robin, and other heroes while battling villains such as the Joker, Penguin, and Catwoman across a Lego-built Gotham City.

The year can be confused with later entries in the series. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes arrived in 2012, while Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham followed in 2014. The original game also inspired a villain-focused spin-off, Lego DC Super-Villains, released in 2018. Thus, 2008 is the unambiguous year for the first Lego Batman video game.
