The original Lego Island video game was released in 1997.
Mindscape developed and published Lego Island for Microsoft Windows, with the worldwide release arriving on September 26, 1997. It was the second Lego video game overall and the first Lego game released outside Japan, following the Japan-only Lego Fun to Build for Sega Pico.
The game presents a colorful, exploratory island where players can switch among five minifigure characters, drive vehicles, complete activities, and deliver pizzas as Pepper Roni. Its central story concerns the escaped prisoner Brickster, who threatens to wreck the island.
Lego Island is sometimes confused with its sequels, Lego Island 2: The Brickster’s Revenge from 2001 and Island Xtreme Stunts from 2002. The original became a major commercial success, selling more than 900,000 copies in the United States between 1997 and 1999 and helping establish Lego as a serious video-game brand.
