What was the title of Nirvana’s final studio album, released in 1993?

The story behind the answer

In Utero was Nirvana’s final studio album, released in 1993.

DGC Records released the album on September 13, 1993. It followed Nevermind and was recorded at Pachyderm Studio with Steve Albini. The album’s sound was deliberately more abrasive and less polished, while songs such as “Heart-Shaped Box,” “Rape Me,” and “All Apologies” showed the band’s continuing range.

In Utero reached number one on the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. Despite its challenging production and subject matter, it received strong critical attention and became one of Nirvana’s most important records.

Nirvana did not record another studio album after In Utero. The band’s final months included extensive touring and the 1994 single “You Know You’re Right,” which was recorded before Cobain’s death but released years later. Incesticide is a compilation, not a studio album, so it is not the answer.
