Nirvana’s 1992 compilation album combining songs from earlier releases was Incesticide.
DGC Records released Incesticide on December 14, 1992. Rather than being a conventional new studio album, it collected rarities, B-sides, demos, and tracks that had previously appeared on singles or independent releases. The compilation gave listeners access to material recorded before and during Nirvana’s rise to fame.
The album included songs such as “Sliver,” “Dive,” “Aneurysm,” and “Been a Son.” Its cover artwork was created by Kurt Cobain, who also contributed other visual elements associated with the release.
Incesticide is sometimes mistaken for a greatest-hits album, but it was primarily an archival collection. It also differs from With the Lights Out, the three-disc box set issued in 2004, which gathered a much larger selection of demos and unreleased recordings.
