What was the name of Mudhoney’s 1988 debut EP?

The story behind the answer

Mudhoney’s 1988 debut EP was called Superfuzz Bigmuff.

Released by Sub Pop, Superfuzz Bigmuff introduced the band’s abrasive mixture of distorted guitar, punk energy, and garage-rock attack. The title refers to two effects pedals: the Fender Blender-style Superfuzz and the Big Muff distortion pedal, both associated with the record’s thick guitar sound.

Mudhoney formed in Seattle in 1988 after the breakup of Green River. Mark Arm provided vocals, Steve Turner played guitar, Matt Lukin played bass, and Dan Peters played drums on the original release. The band became one of the foundational acts of the Pacific Northwest scene.

The title is sometimes shortened in conversation to “Superfuzz,” but the canonical EP title is Superfuzz Bigmuff. Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge was a later Mudhoney studio album, released in 1991.
