What was Soundgarden’s third studio album?

The story behind the answer

Soundgarden’s third studio album was Badmotorfinger.

The album was released on October 8, 1991, following Ultramega OK and Louder Than Love. It was Soundgarden’s first album with bassist Ben Shepherd, who replaced Jason Everman after the earlier record. The lineup also featured Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, and Matt Cameron.

Badmotorfinger included songs such as “Rusty Cage,” “Outshined,” and “Jesus Christ Pose.” It helped establish Soundgarden as one of Seattle’s leading grunge bands and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.

Superunknown, released in 1994, became the band’s biggest commercial success, so it is often mistakenly named as the third album. In fact, Superunknown was Soundgarden’s fourth studio album, while Badmotorfinger occupied the third position.
