What is the tallest waterfall in Oregon’s Multnomah Falls complex?

The story behind the answer

Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in Oregon’s Multnomah Falls complex, with a total drop of 189 metres.

The waterfall is in the Columbia River Gorge, east of Portland. It has two principal stages separated by a ledge and is crossed by the historic Benson Bridge, which provides a well-known viewpoint near the lower section.

Multnomah Creek feeds the falls from underground springs and seasonal precipitation on Larch Mountain. The waterfall flows year-round, although its volume can change with rainfall and snowmelt.

The name can be confused with nearby waterfalls such as Latourell, Wahkeena and Bridal Veil Falls. Those are separate Columbia River Gorge waterfalls; Multnomah Falls is the two-tiered landmark associated with Benson Bridge.
