What is the tallest waterfall in Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes system?
Answer
Veliki Slap
Answer
Veliki Slap
Veliki Slap is the tallest waterfall in Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes system.
Veliki Slap, meaning “Great Waterfall,” is about 78 metres high. It stands at the lower end of Plitvice Lakes National Park, where water from the Plitvica stream drops beside the lower lakes before joining the Korana River.
Plitvice is famous for a chain of sixteen named lakes connected by cascades. Travertine barriers, formed by mineral-rich water and biological processes, continually shape the lakes and channels. This geology gives the park its distinctive turquoise and green waters.
Veliki Slap is sometimes confused with the park’s Sastavci cascades, which are nearby and visually connected. Sastavci are formed where the Korana begins, while Veliki Slap is the prominent 78-metre fall of the Plitvica stream.
