What is the name of the race of snake-like beings that serve as the main villains in G.I. Joe: The Movie?

The story behind the answer

The snake-like race that serves as the main villainous force in G.I. Joe: The Movie is Cobra-La.

Cobra-La is a hidden civilization of reptilian or snake-like beings introduced in the 1987 animated film. Led by Golobulus, its inhabitants live in a secret underground city in the Himalayas and claim to be the descendants of an ancient civilization that ruled Earth before the Ice Age and humanity’s technological rise.

In the film’s plot, Cobra-La manipulates Cobra’s history and uses Cobra Commander as an agent. Its plan is to launch spore pods into space, spread mutative spores, and reclaim the planet for its own people. Cobra-La is therefore not another Cobra military unit: Python Patrol is a Cobra subdivision, the Dreadnoks are a gang allied with Cobra, and Serpentor’s cult is not the name of the race.
