The leader of Cobra-La in G.I. Joe: The Movie is Golobulus.
Golobulus rules the hidden, ancient civilization of Cobra-La, which lives beneath the Himalayas. The film presents Cobra-La as a prehistoric society that once dominated Earth before the Ice Age and human technological development forced its survivors underground. From there, the civilization preserved its biological technology and waited for an opportunity to reclaim the surface.
Golobulus is the force behind Cobra-La’s plan to destroy humanity with mutative spores. He also reveals that Cobra-La influenced the creation of Serpentor by manipulating Doctor Mindbender’s dreams. Cobra Commander, whom Golobulus views as a failed agent, is punished with exposure to the spores and transformed into a snake-like creature.
The character is easy to confuse with Cobra Commander or Serpentor because all three command forces during the movie’s conflict. However, Cobra Commander leads the Cobra organization, Serpentor commands Cobra’s military forces for part of the story, and Golobulus is the ruler of Cobra-La.
