What is the name of the island nation taken over by Cobra in the Marvel comics?

The island nation taken over by Cobra in the Marvel comics is Cobra Island.

In the Marvel G.I. Joe continuity, Cobra Island was formed after a massive man-made earthquake created new land. Cobra had anticipated the event and quickly moved its personnel and resources onto the island. Its lawyers then secured recognition of the territory as a sovereign nation from several governments, forcing the G.I. Joe team to treat it as more than an ordinary enemy base.

Cobra Island became a major setting for battles, political maneuvering, and the Cobra Civil War. It was also associated with the Coil, a rival faction that challenged Cobra’s control. The island’s history varies across G.I. Joe continuities, so details from the animated series, later comics, and toy profiles should not be blended with the original Marvel version.

A common mix-up is confusing Cobra Island with Springfield, Cobra’s covert American town, or Cobra-La, the hidden civilization introduced in the 1987 animated movie.
