The G.I. Joe: Sigma 6 animated series premiered in 2005.
Sigma 6 was a reimagining of Hasbro’s G.I. Joe property, created alongside a new toy line that used larger figures of roughly eight inches rather than the classic three-and-three-quarter-inch scale. The animated series updated familiar characters such as Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Heavy Duty, and Tunnel Rat, while giving the team advanced Sigma suits designed to protect them from Cobra’s weapons and enhance their abilities.
The show was produced by 4Kids Productions and animated by the Japanese studio Gonzo. In the United States, it aired through Fox’s 4Kids TV programming block; contemporary announcements placed its series premiere in September 2005. The program ultimately consisted of 26 episodes and ran into 2006, with later broadcasts and international scheduling sometimes making the series dates look broader than its premiere year.
It is commonly confused with G.I. Joe: Renegades, which debuted in 2010, or with the earlier 1980s Sunbow series. Sigma 6 was a distinct anime-influenced reboot.
