What is the name of the prison in Batman: Arkham Origins?
Answer
Blackgate Prison
Answer
Blackgate Prison
The prison in Batman: Arkham Origins is Blackgate Prison. The game opens with Batman responding to a Christmas Eve jailbreak at Blackgate Penitentiary, where crime lord Black Mask has escaped and Commissioner Loeb is killed.
Blackgate is Gotham’s main prison for ordinary criminals and organized-crime figures, contrasting with Arkham Asylum, which primarily houses mentally ill supervillains. In Arkham Origins, the prison becomes central again when the Joker incites a riot and takes control of the facility. Batman later returns with Captain James Gordon and the police to stop the uprising.
A common mix-up is Arkham Asylum, because it is the setting of the first game and is strongly associated with Batman’s villains. Blackgate also appears in the multiplayer maps and in the companion game Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, whose plot follows a prison riot there. The facility is therefore a recurring Gotham location, not merely a one-scene setting.
