The Impostor’s ability to move through vents is called venting. Vents are connected passageways built into Among Us maps, allowing an Impostor to disappear from one location and emerge in another. Used carefully, venting lets an Impostor escape a crime scene, travel quickly, or set up an ambush.
Venting is not ordinary movement. Crewmates generally cannot use vents, although the Engineer role can enter them for a limited time in games where roles are enabled. An Impostor inside a vent is hidden from normal room traffic, but staying there carries risks: another player may see the entry or exit animation, and cameras or other surveillance tools can expose suspicious movement.
The word “vent” is also used informally as a verb by players, but “venting” is the canonical name for the Impostor action. Phasing, cloaking, and teleporting are not the game’s standard terms for it. The ability has become one of Among Us’s defining mechanics, giving the Impostor mobility that Crewmates do not normally possess.
