What is the name of the fictional island where Peter Jackson’s King Kong expedition finds Kong?

The story behind the answer

The expedition in Peter Jackson’s King Kong finds Kong on Skull Island.

In the 2005 film, filmmaker Carl Denham leads a shipboard expedition to the uncharted island after learning of its existence. Skull Island is separated from the outside world and contains giant animals, prehistoric-looking creatures and the enormous wall that protects the island’s human inhabitants from Kong.

The island is a core element of the King Kong mythology. Jackson’s version expands its geography and creature life, making the voyage and exploration a substantial part of the film before the story moves to New York City.

Skull Island is sometimes confused with Isla Sorna, the dinosaur island from the Jurassic Park franchise. They are unrelated fictional locations. The expedition reaches Skull Island aboard the ship Venture, while Kong is later captured and transported to New York for public display.
