What is the longest mountain range in Europe?
Answer
Ural Mountains
Answer
Ural Mountains
The Ural Mountains are the longest mountain range in Europe.
The Urals extend for about 2,500 kilometres from the Arctic Ocean toward the Ural River and northwestern Kazakhstan. They are conventionally treated as part of the boundary between Europe and Asia, although continental boundaries are matters of geographic convention rather than visible lines on the ground.
The range is generally older and lower than the Alps. Its highest point is Mount Narodnaya, which rises to 1,895 metres. The Urals are especially important for mineral resources, including iron ore, copper, gold, platinum, and various gemstones. Forests dominate much of the northern and central range, while tundra appears farther north.
The Urals are sometimes confused with the Caucasus when people ask about the Europe–Asia boundary. Under another widely used convention, the Caucasus crest forms the boundary farther south. Regardless of that debate, the Urals remain a clearly defined north–south mountain system and one of the world’s major mineral regions.
