What is the highest peak in the Hindu Kush mountain range?
Answer
Tirich Mir
Answer
Tirich Mir
Tirich Mir is the highest peak in the Hindu Kush mountain range. It reaches 7,708 metres and stands in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghan border.
The mountain dominates the landscape around Chitral and is the highest summit outside the Himalaya-Karakoram-Pamir mountain systems in some geographical comparisons. Its broad massif has several subsidiary summits and heavily glaciated upper slopes.
Tirich Mir was first climbed successfully in 1950 by a Norwegian expedition led by Arne Randers Heen. The mountain’s remote terrain, steep ridges and severe weather make it a demanding mountaineering objective.
Noshaq, the second-highest peak of the Hindu Kush, lies on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. It is therefore easy to confuse with Tirich Mir, but Tirich Mir is the range’s highest summit.
