What is the highest peak in the Eastern Ghats of India?

The story behind the answer

Arma Konda is the highest peak in India’s Eastern Ghats, reaching about 1,680 metres.

The mountain is in Andhra Pradesh, in the rugged highlands of the Eastern Ghats. It is also known as Seethamma Konda in some sources. The summit lies in a landscape of forested ridges and valleys near the borderlands of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, where the Eastern Ghats are broken into separate hill groups rather than forming one continuous wall.

The Eastern Ghats run discontinuously along India’s eastern side, unlike the more continuous Western Ghats. Major rivers, including the Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri, cut through or around the range on their way to the Bay of Bengal. The hills support dry deciduous forests as well as pockets of richer biodiversity.

Mahendragiri is another famous Eastern Ghats summit and an important cultural landmark, but it is lower than Arma Konda. Because the range is fragmented and summit measurements vary slightly between references, Arma Konda is best identified as the highest recognized peak of the Eastern Ghats.
