What is the highest peak in South Africa’s Drakensberg mountain range?
Answer
Thabana Ntlenyana
Answer
Thabana Ntlenyana
Thabana Ntlenyana is the highest peak in South Africa’s Drakensberg mountain range, reaching 3,482 metres.
The summit lies in Lesotho, close to the border with South Africa, within the dramatic Maloti-Drakensberg highlands. Its Sesotho name is commonly translated as “beautiful little mountain.” Despite that gentle meaning, the peak stands above a rugged landscape of cliffs, basalt formations, and high plateaus.
Mafadi is often confused with Thabana Ntlenyana because it is the highest mountain in South Africa itself. Thabana Ntlenyana is higher, but its summit is across the international border in Lesotho. The Drakensberg is also famous for extensive San rock art.
