What instrument did Krist Novoselic play in Nirvana?

The story behind the answer

Krist Novoselic played bass guitar in Nirvana. He formed the band with Kurt Cobain in Aberdeen, Washington, and remained its bassist throughout Nirvana’s recording and touring career.

Novoselic’s bass lines helped provide the low-end foundation beneath Cobain’s guitar and Dave Grohl’s drumming. His playing is especially prominent on songs such as “Come as You Are,” whose opening bass figure became one of Nirvana’s most recognizable musical elements.

Novoselic had previously played in the Aberdeen punk band Sweet 75 and became a central member of the scene that developed around Washington’s independent music community. After Nirvana ended in 1994, he continued performing in several projects, including Sweet 75 and Eyes Adrift.

He has sometimes been identified by the nickname Krist, although his birth name was Christopher Joseph Novoselic.
