Titan in Arkham Asylum is based on Venom, the strength-enhancing drug associated with Bane.
In the game’s story, Titan is presented as a more powerful version of Venom. Venom gives Bane his extraordinary physical strength, while Titan pushes the concept much further, producing violent, enlarged mutations and temporarily granting users immense power.
Dr. Penelope Young develops Titan research at Arkham, secretly funded by the Joker. The Joker wants the formula to create an army of powerful, resilient monsters. Batman discovers that the completed substance is produced with genetically modified plants and later destroys the formula and the production operation.
Titan is not the same as Scarecrow’s fear toxin, which causes terrifying hallucinations, or Mirakuru, a different enhancement serum from other Batman-related stories. Velocity 9 also belongs to another fictional setting. The Venom connection is the key distinction: Titan is an evolved, more dangerous version of Bane’s familiar drug.
