Peter Jackson’s film Heavenly Creatures was released in 1994.
The film is a New Zealand psychological drama based on the real Parker–Hulme murder case. It follows Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme, whose close friendship becomes increasingly intense before the 1954 killing of Pauline’s mother, Honorah Parker.
Heavenly Creatures marked an important stage in Jackson’s career. His earlier work included the splatstick horror film Braindead, released in 1992, while Heavenly Creatures showed a more dramatic and historically grounded style. The film received international attention and helped introduce Kate Winslet to cinema audiences.
The year can be confused with 1992, the release year of Braindead, or 1996, the year of Jackson’s supernatural comedy The Frighteners. Heavenly Creatures premiered during the 1994 period and is generally identified as a 1994 film.
