In what year did Peter Jackson's documentary They Shall Not Grow Old premiere?

The story behind the answer

Peter Jackson's documentary They Shall Not Grow Old premiered in 2018.

The film premiered at the BFI London Film Festival on 16 October 2018. Jackson created it from archival footage supplied by the Imperial War Museums and audio recordings from the BBC, focusing on British soldiers during the First World War.

The original black-and-white footage was digitally restored, colorized in many sections, and converted from silent archival imagery into a presentation with synchronized sound. Lip readers helped interpret speech from the footage, while actors recorded dialogue based on veterans' words.

The title comes from the poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon. The documentary was produced to mark the centenary of the Armistice and was later shown in special cinema events before wider distribution. Its techniques were designed to make century-old material more immediate without changing the historical subject.
