In Peter Jackson’s The Return of the King, what is the name of Aragorn’s horse?

The story behind the answer

Aragorn’s horse is named Brego in Peter Jackson’s The Return of the King.

Brego is a bay horse who helps Aragorn after the future king is injured and falls into a river during the journey to Helm’s Deep. The horse later carries Aragorn toward the Paths of the Dead and the final battles of the War of the Ring.

Brego’s name is also associated with Rohan’s history: in Tolkien’s wider mythology, Brego was a former king of Rohan. The film uses the name for Aragorn’s loyal mount, creating a connection with the Rohirrim and their royal traditions.

Shadowfax is Gandalf’s famous horse, while Hasufel and Arod are horses associated with other members of the Fellowship. These names are therefore easy to mix up when recalling the trilogy’s many riders and steeds.
