In Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, where does the Council of Elrond take place?

The story behind the answer

In Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, the Council of Elrond takes place in Rivendell.

Rivendell is the Elven refuge ruled by Elrond, played by Hugo Weaving. Frodo Baggins arrives there after being wounded by a Morgul blade, and representatives of several peoples gather to decide what should happen to the One Ring.

At the council, Elrond explains that the Ring cannot simply be hidden or used safely. Frodo volunteers to carry it to Mordor, leading to the formation of the Fellowship. The scene therefore establishes the central mission of Jackson’s trilogy.

Rivendell is sometimes confused with Lothlórien, another Elven realm visited later in the story. Lothlórien is ruled by Galadriel and Celeborn, whereas Rivendell is associated with Elrond and lies west of the Misty Mountains.
