Tauriel is the elf warrior played by Evangeline Lilly in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Tauriel is the captain of the Woodland Realm’s guard and is introduced as a skilled archer and fighter. She is associated with the Elvenking Thranduil and Legolas, although she is a new character created for Jackson’s Hobbit film trilogy rather than a character who appears in J. R. R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit.
Her storyline includes encounters with the dwarves, the people of Lake-town and the orc Bolg. Tauriel’s relationship with Kíli provides an additional emotional thread in the films and distinguishes her from the established female characters of Tolkien’s wider legendarium.
Tauriel is often confused with Arwen or Éowyn, but those characters belong to The Lord of the Rings narrative. Galadriel appears in the Hobbit films as a different elf portrayed by Cate Blanchett.
