In Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring, what is the name of the sword reforged for Aragorn?

The story behind the answer

In Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring, the sword reforged for Aragorn is called Andúril.

Andúril is created from the shards of Narsil, the sword that Isildur used to cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand during the Second Age. In the film trilogy, the broken sword is kept at Rivendell before being reforged for Aragorn’s return to his role as the heir of Isildur.

The name Andúril is translated as “Flame of the West.” It symbolizes Aragorn’s royal lineage and his acceptance of the responsibility to lead the peoples opposing Sauron. The reforging occurs before the events shown in The Two Towers, even though the sword’s importance is established earlier.

Andúril is often confused with other famous Middle-earth weapons. Glamdring belongs to Gandalf, Sting is Bilbo and Frodo’s small sword, and Orcrist is the blade associated with Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit films.
