In Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong, which fictional island is home to the giant ape?

The story behind the answer

In Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong, the giant ape lives on the fictional Skull Island.

The film follows filmmaker Carl Denham, played by Jack Black, as he leads a production team to the remote island. Naomi Watts plays actress Ann Darrow, and Adrien Brody plays screenwriter Jack Driscoll. The expedition encounters prehistoric creatures and the enormous Kong.

Skull Island originated in the 1933 King Kong film and became a central part of the character's mythology. Jackson's version uses the setting to combine adventure spectacle with a story about exploitation, performance, and the relationship between Ann and Kong.

Jackson's film is a remake rather than a direct adaptation of a novel. It won three Academy Awards for sound editing, sound mixing, and visual effects, with much of Kong created through digital effects and Andy Serkis's performance capture.
