Who wrote the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child based on a story by J.K. Rowling?

The story behind the answer

Jack Thorne wrote the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child based on a story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Thorne.

The play premiered in London’s West End in 2016. Its story is set nineteen years after the conclusion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and follows Harry as an adult, along with his son Albus Severus Potter.

John Tiffany directed the original production, while Rowling contributed to the story and served as a producer. Thorne was responsible for writing the stage script, including the dialogue and dramatic structure intended for live performance.

The play is often described casually as an eighth Harry Potter story, but it is a stage play rather than one of Rowling’s seven original novels. Its published script was released in book form, which can make it appear similar to a conventional novel even though it is formatted for theatre.
