J.K. Rowling's official digital platform launched in 2011 for Harry Potter fans was called Pottermore. The website offered interactive story moments, original writing by Rowling, quizzes and access to digital editions of the books.
Pottermore opened to the public in April 2012 after an earlier period of registration and testing. Rowling used the platform to publish background material that was not included in the seven novels, including information about wizarding history and characters.
In 2019, Pottermore Publishing was established to manage digital Harry Potter content, while the consumer website was later rebranded WizardingWorld.com. The name “Pottermore” therefore refers specifically to the original platform, not the current branding. This distinction prevents confusion between the 2011 website and the later Wizarding World service.
