Jack Thorne wrote the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, based on a story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Thorne.
The stage production opened in London’s West End in 2016. Its story is set nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and focuses on Harry’s son Albus Severus Potter and Draco Malfoy’s son Scorpius.
Rowling helped develop the story, but she did not write the stage script alone. Jack Thorne wrote the script, while John Tiffany directed the original production. This division of roles is important because the published play is often casually called “the eighth Harry Potter book,” even though it was created as a play script.
The original London production was presented in two parts. A one-part version, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: The Journey, later became available for some productions.
