Antje Harvey won the women's 15-kilometre biathlon gold medal at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.
Harvey competed for Germany and finished the individual race with the fastest overall time after combining cross-country skiing with shooting. The 15-kilometre individual event includes four shooting bouts, and missed targets add penalty time rather than requiring extra penalty loops.
Harvey's victory came at the final Winter Olympics in which Germany competed as a unified nation after reunification. She had previously represented East Germany, so her Albertville title marked a notable transition in her international career.
The 1992 women's biathlon program also included the 7.5-kilometre sprint and the 3-by-7.5-kilometre relay. The individual event is distinct from the sprint and pursuit: shooting accuracy carries a larger time penalty, making tactical pacing especially important.
