Which athlete won all three men's alpine skiing gold medals at the 1956 Cortina Winter Olympics?

The story behind the answer

Toni Sailer won all three men's alpine skiing gold medals at the 1956 Cortina Winter Olympics.

The Austrian skier won the downhill, giant slalom and slalom at Cortina d'Ampezzo. He became the first athlete to win every alpine skiing event on a single Olympic programme, a feat that made him one of the defining stars of the 1956 Games.

Sailer won the downhill by more than three seconds, a remarkable margin in a short Olympic race. He also won the giant slalom and slalom decisively, completing a clean sweep before turning professional in skiing and later pursuing an acting and singing career.

Jean-Claude Killy matched the three-event alpine sweep at Grenoble 1968. The programmes differed across eras, so modern comparisons must account for the later addition of events such as the super-G.
