Which city hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics, held in what was then Yugoslavia?

The story behind the answer

Sarajevo hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics in what was then Yugoslavia.

The Games took place from 8 to 19 February 1984 in Sarajevo, then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. They were the first Winter Olympics held in a socialist state and the first Olympic Games hosted in Yugoslavia.

Events were staged at venues in and around Sarajevo, including the mountains of Jahorina, Bjelašnica and Igman. The Games are remembered for strong performances by alpine skier Marja-Liisa Hämäläinen of Finland and the British ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Sarajevo's Olympic facilities were severely damaged during the Bosnian War in the 1990s. Some venues were later repaired or reused, while others remained visible reminders of the city's Olympic past.
