Finland won the first Olympic men's ski-jumping team event at Calgary 1988.
The Finnish team won the inaugural Olympic team competition on the normal hill at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. The event used three jumpers per team, with the scores combined to determine the standings.
Finland's winning team included Matti Nykänen, Ari-Pekka Nikkola and Tuomo Ylipulli. Nykänen was already a major star and also won the individual normal-hill and large-hill events at Calgary, completing three gold medals at the Games.
The team event later became associated with the large hill rather than the normal hill. Ski jumping programmes and scoring formats have changed over time, so the inaugural 1988 competition should not be confused with later versions of the event.
