Michael Long
Michael Long won the Norm Smith Medal in the 1993 AFL Grand Final.
Long received the medal after starring for Essendon in its 44-point victory over Carlton at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He was recognised as the best player on the ground in the premiership decider.
A highly talented half-forward and midfielder, Long used his pace, balance, and evasive skills to influence important matches. He played 190 AFL games for Essendon and was part of the club’s premiership teams in 1993 and 2000.
The Norm Smith Medal is awarded to the best player in an AFL Grand Final. It is named after Norm Smith, the former Melbourne player and coach, and has been presented since the 1979 Grand Final.
