Which club won the 2007 AFL premiership after setting a record Grand Final winning margin?

The story behind the answer

Geelong won the 2007 AFL premiership after defeating Port Adelaide by a record 119 points in the Grand Final.

Played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 29 September 2007, the match ended Geelong 24.19 (163) to Port Adelaide 6.8 (44). The 119-point margin was the largest in VFL/AFL Grand Final history at the time and remains one of the competition’s most striking championship results.

Steve Johnson won the Norm Smith Medal, while Geelong’s attack was led by five goals from Steve Johnson and three each from Cameron Mooney and Tom Hawkins. The premiership ended Geelong’s 44-year wait for a senior men’s flag.

The result is sometimes remembered as Port Adelaide’s record loss rather than Geelong’s achievement. Geelong’s 2007 season also included a dramatic turnaround after the club had missed the finals in 2006.
