Which player won the 1985 Brownlow Medal after receiving the most votes?
Answer
Brad Hardie
Answer
Brad Hardie
Brad Hardie won the 1985 Brownlow Medal after polling the most votes.
Hardie was a West Coast Eagles defender when he claimed the award with 22 votes. He became the first player from West Coast to win the Brownlow Medal, doing so in only the club’s second VFL season.
The Brownlow Medal is awarded to the fairest and best player in the VFL/AFL home-and-away season. Votes are cast by field umpires, who award three, two and one vote after each match.
Hardie’s victory is separate from later Brownlow results involving Greg Williams, who won the medal in 1986 and 1994. The 1985 count established Hardie as West Coast’s first Brownlow winner.
