Who won the 2026 BAFTA for Adapted Screenplay?

Paul Thomas Anderson won the 2026 BAFTA for Adapted Screenplay for *One Battle After Another*.

The award recognized Anderson’s screenplay for the political action comedy-drama, which he also directed. The film is loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel *Vineland*, relocating its themes of radical politics, family, surveillance and authoritarian power into a contemporary American setting. Anderson shared the film’s major awards-night success, as it also won Best Film and Best Director.

A common mix-up is confusing this result with the Original Screenplay award. That prize went to Ryan Coogler for *Sinners*. Other listed alternatives were nominees or screenplay contenders, but none won the adapted category. The 79th British Academy Film Awards honored films released in 2025 and took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 22 February 2026.
