Who voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars?

Larry the Cable Guy voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars.

Mater is a rusty tow truck from Radiator Springs who becomes Lightning McQueen’s closest friend. He is enthusiastic, loyal, and frequently comic, but his apparent simplicity hides strong emotional intelligence. Mater helps McQueen understand the value of friendship and community beyond racing fame.

Larry the Cable Guy is the stage name of comedian Daniel Lawrence Whitney. His distinctive Southern-influenced comic delivery shaped Mater’s voice and became one of the character’s defining traits. The role also led to Mater appearing in later Cars films and the Cars Toons: Mater’s Tall Tales shorts.

Mater’s design is based on an old tow truck, with visible wear and mismatched parts. His friendship with McQueen is central to the franchise, and the character became one of Pixar’s most recognizable comic creations.
