Doc Hudson is revealed as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet in Pixar’s Cars. The retired champion hides his former racing identity while serving as Radiator Springs’ doctor and judge.
The Fabulous Hudson Hornet is based on a real Hudson automobile associated with stock-car racing success in the early 1950s. In the film’s history, Doc won three Piston Cups before a crash ended his competitive career and left him embittered toward the racing world.
Lightning McQueen initially sees Doc as an obstacle, but he gradually learns that Doc understands racing better than anyone in town. Doc’s coaching helps McQueen improve his cornering and appreciate the importance of people beyond the finish line.
The King, also known as Strip Weathers, is another veteran champion, but he is a separate character. Chick Hicks is Doc’s former-era rival, not Doc’s hidden identity.
