Pixar’s Cars was originally released in theaters in 2006.
The film premiered in the United States on June 9, 2006, and became Pixar’s seventh feature film. It followed The Incredibles, which had been released in 2004, and preceded Ratatouille in 2007.
Cars introduced Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sally Carrera, Doc Hudson, and the wider world of living vehicles. Its story combined sports-racing comedy with a coming-of-age journey set in the fictional town of Radiator Springs.
The year is sometimes confused with the release years of the sequels. Cars 2 arrived in 2011, while Cars 3 arrived in 2017. Pixar also released Cars Toons shorts and related merchandise, but those do not change the original feature film’s release year.
